Wheat growing, and parallel with it flour milling, began in South Australia with colonisation – food was short, and flour a necessity. The following section takes you chronologically through the establishment of the significant flour milling industry in South Australia and its gradual demise as the raw product (wheat) became more and more exported as a bulk commodity.
