Strategic Plans and Reviews

 

One of the early strategic reviews of the Department of Agriculture was prepared by Marshall Irving, the then head of the Department. The request came from the Premier for the Director of Agriculture to provide Cabinet with a clear statement of the aims and objectives of his Department.

The Callaghan Report, which led to the implementation of the regionalisation concept from the mid 1970s, was prepared by Sir Allan Callaghan, a former Director of Agriculture.

In 1991/92, primarily responding to the impacts on SA of the collapse of the State Bank of SA consulting firm, McKinsey and Company were commissioned to undertake a review of the Department of Agriculture's activities and strategies. This paper presents a general view of conditions and proposals in South Australian Agriculture in 1908. It gives a fair indication that agriculture was flourishing and viable listing export values with the wheat industry exports valued at £2,152,842.
