Minister for Justice Michael Keenan and South Australian Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Leon Bignell today announced that Category C assistance for primary producers would be extended to the local government area of Mid Murray following the storm of November 2016.
This is in addition to the assistance already being provided to other affected council areas through the jointly funded Commonwealth and Australian Government Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
Minister Keenan said recovery grants of up to $10,000 are being made available for primary producers in the local government areas of Loxton Waikerie, Berri Barmera, Renmark Paringa and Mid Murray.
"It has become clear that a number of primary producers in Mid Murray have suffered significant disruption to their farms following the November 2016 storm and require additional assistance to support their recovery," Mr Keenan said.
Mr Bignell said the grants can be used to reimburse costs such as hiring equipment for clean-up works as well as repairing damage to buildings and fencing caused by the disaster.
"This assistance will provide a boost to the vital primary producer sector in Mid Murray which will assist the broader community in recovering from this severe hailstorm," Mr Bignell said.
