The success of South Australia’s forestry industry in the Limestone Coast was on show last night in Mount Gambier at the inaugural Green Triangle Timber Industry Awards.
The awards were established to celebrate the achievements across the Green Triangle forestry area – one of Australia’s premier forestry regions – and unite participants in industry recognition.
Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone congratulated all those involved in initiating and supporting the awards.
"The Green Triangle Timber Industry Awards last night recognised individuals and businesses across fourteen categories extending across the entire value chain – from harvesting, processing, and silviculture to distribution and logistics, innovation, and safety," said Minister Whetstone.
"I congratulate all of the winners from the evening’s celebrations. Their hard work and dedication, and demonstration of best practice have played an important role in the success of this important industry.
"Forestry in the Green Triangle generates over $1.2 billion in sales and underpins thousands of jobs. It’s a truly significant area for both South Australia and Victoria, and deserves recognition for what it contributes to our state – and national – economy.
"The awards program has done an excellent job in promoting the image of timber and creating awareness of the calibre of skills in the region, as well as providing the Green Triangle industry an occasion to come together for celebration.
"I’d also like to acknowledge the work of the steering committee who made this initiative happen. The awards are the result of significant voluntary work by industry and regional representatives who have shown great commitment to bringing the awards vision to life in this first year."
