Black Point boat ramp, Yorke Peninsula, SA

The South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) is hosting a community event at Black Point to celebrate the release of thousands of juvenile Snapper, or fingerlings, into Gulf St Vincent.

The fingerlings will be released from the boat ramp in the early morning on the first weekday of the school holidays.

Local community, schools and media are encouraged to attend.

This release forms part of the $8.8 million South Australian Government’s support package for Snapper, which will deliver close to 1 million fingerlings to SA waters by the end of 2024. Learn more about Snapper recovery.

Access to facilities and safety

To ensure safe release of the fingerlings, the boat ramp will be closed to the public between the hours of 5 am and 9 am on Monday 22 April 2024. We thank the community for their understanding.

Toilets and facilities at the release site are limited. The Black Point Caravan and Camping Ground, adjacent to the boat ramp, has toilets available for use by event goers.

An increase in visitors and road traffic to Black Point is expected for this event. Please slow down and drive carefully.
