Speckled Livebearer
Freshwater species found in South Australia. Has been found in a creek south of Adelaide.
Speckled Livebearer is a small exotic aquarium fish that can:
- degrade water quality
- displace native species.
Declared noxious under the Fisheries Management Act 2007. Noxious species are a severe threat to the natural environment and industries. They cannot be held or traded in South Australia without specific authorisation and must not be returned to the water if caught.
Never release or dispose of unwanted aquarium fish into waterways without a permit.
What to look for:
- small fish similar to Mosquito fish
- distinctive black spots and blotches on the side of the body
- females can grow up to 6 cm
- yellow colour.
