Connecting with community

PIRSA staff from Adelaide joined regionally based Fisheries Officers to meet with representatives from the Barngarla community on the Eyre Peninsula.

The visit was an opportunity to chat about recent PIRSA initiatives regarding integrating customary rights into fisheries management, as well as the development of the Aboriginal Fisheries Officer Career Pathway Program.

Through these initiatives, and by reaching out to the community, PIRSA hopes to build on relationships with the Barngarla people, leading to improved opportunities for employment pathways and better inclusion of indigenous Australians in policy and management decisions.
