Seafood Growth Strategy

The Seafood Growth Strategy is a 10-year plan that aims to drive growth and opportunities for a sustainable and profitable seafood sector.

The strategy builds on South Australia’s excellent reputation for producing premium seafood and experiences.

It provides a pathway for future growth and expansion into new markets, and highlights opportunities for business development and training.

Strategy foundations

The strategy is underpinned by seven key pillars:

  • support, unity and resources
  • seafood products and production
  • security of access and investment
  • industry promotion and communication
  • capacity building, education and training
  • strategic research, development and extension
  • technology adoption and innovation.

These pillars will support the State Government’s Growth State plan, which aims to achieve a primary industries revenue of $23 billion by 2030.

The strategy was developed by the Seafood Advisory Forum – a group of representatives and champions from across the seafood industry – on behalf of the State Government.

Public consultation on an initial draft plan was held in 2020, with feedback informing the final strategy.

Next steps

The Seafood Advisory Forum aims to bring the strategy to life through a united approach across the sector.

A short-term operation plan will be developed to establish the priorities and activities for the strategy over the next three years.
