SA evokes AgTech thinking at international event

Friday 20 December 2019

South Australia's presence at the Asia-Pacific region's largest agrifood tech event next year will demonstrate the state's growing reputation for AgTech.

The Marshall Liberal Government has committed $30,000 in sponsorship to evokeAG. 2020 in Victoria to have a South Australian presence at the event to promote to the world the state's latest research and development in farming and food production technology.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone said the State Government's sponsorship of evokeAG. aligns with the Marshall Liberal Government's focus on AgTech.

"The evokeAG  2019 event had more than 1,100 attendees from 30 countries and it is important South Australia is part of this leading AgTech event," said Minister Whetstone.

"We see this investment as an opportunity to promote South Australia's leading agriculture industry to international industry experts.

"evokeAG. aims to connect, collaborate and evolve all things agriculture and having a South Australian-focused site is an opportunity to promote our state as an innovative hub for agriculture and food technology.

"Technology in the primary industries sector is changing at a rapid pace and that's why the Marshall Liberal Government has appointed an AgTech Advisory Group as part of its AgTech agenda.

"The role of this group is vital to encourage greater adoption of AgTech solutions on-farm and through the value chain – helping to build on South Australia's advantages, showcase businesses and organisations developing or using new technology, and to increase productivity and quality in our primary industries.

AgriFutures Australia Managing Director John Harvey said strong collaboration from all parties, including government, will ensure the acceleration of technology on our farms.

"We are thrilled to have the support of the South Australian Government. They recognise the importance technology and innovation have on the future of our industry," said Mr Harvey.

"It's important that we stay clear of silos. For AgTech solutions to be truly beneficial, all parties need to come together to develop the technologies, and make sure the AgTech solutions are practical."

evokeAG. will be held in Melbourne from 18 to 19 February 2020.
