Regional South Australians aged 15 to 24 are encouraged to get involved in this year’s Youth Parliament program.
Now in its 21st year, Youth Parliament has educated over 1000 young people about parliamentary process and helped them voice their opinions on many different issues.
The Bills passed by the Youth Parliament are formally presented to the Minister for Youth for the Government’s consideration.
Scholarships are available to all regional participants to support the cost of travel to and from Adelaide for training in May and for the residential week in July.
In 2015, the introduction of the scholarships saw the number of regional participants more than double. Last year, 24 of the 75 participants were from regional areas including Kangaroo Island, Tumby Bay, Quorn, Naracoorte, Bordertown, Whyalla, Angaston, Loxton, Nuriootpa, Mundulla and Auburn.
Regional South Australia will be well represented by the 2016 Youth Governor, Elysse Dimitriadis, who is from Mundulla in the South East.
Applications to participate in Youth Parliament 2016 close on Sunday, 13 March 2016.
