Cream treatment plant, SA Farmers Co-op Union, 8th Street, Gawler, 10 August 1965

The plant shown is a “vacreator” which is used to pasteurise cream for butter making using a system whereby steam is injected into the cream to raise it to 90o – 105oC. The injected steam is then “flush-boiled” off in 2 stages under vacuum. This removes volatile taints.
