Seed sprouts

Seed sprout safety is regulated by the Primary Produce (Food Safety Schemes) (Plant Products) Regulations 2022.

All seed sprout producers must:

  1. Hold accreditation.
  2. Have an approved food safety arrangement.
  3. Comply with the Food Standards Code – Standard 4.2.6.

Apply for accreditation

Accreditation is required to produce the following types of seed sprouts for human consumption:

  • alfalfa
  • broccoli
  • clover
  • onion
  • radish
  • sunflower seeds or other seeds
  • mung beans or other beans
  • snow peas or other peas.

Accreditation fees

Application fee: $455

Annual accreditation fee: $400
