Animal health

Monitoring animal health in SA

We oversee animal health through conducting disease surveillance, responding to outbreaks in the state, delivering animal health projects, and informing producers and veterinarians.

Our biosecurity division maintains the productivity of our primary industries, protects our natural environments, and sustains the health and wellbeing of our communities.

About animal health

The Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) Biosecurity division monitors animal health in South Australia. Our responsibilities include managing:

  • property registration, animal identification and movement restrictions
  • disease response and animal surveillance programs
  • advisory groups to inform the Minister
  • animal health projects and working with veterinarians.

Find animal health contact information, including emergency support and veterinary officers in each region.
