Seafood Statement of Recognition Program

The South Australian government invites eligible seafood producers and processors to apply for the Seafood Statement of Recognition Program.

This program provides formal Government recognition to South Australian seafood businesses that meet key regulatory, licensing and accreditation requirements. The Statement of Recognition is designed as a market access and trade development tool, supporting businesses to build confidence with international customers and trading partners and to promote South Australia’s strong reputation for safe, high-quality and sustainably produced seafood.

About the program

South Australia is recognised as a world leader in sustainable fisheries and aquaculture management. We produce premium seafood to high food safety standards from clean marine waters, supported by strong regulatory and biosecurity frameworks.

The Seafood Statement of Recognition Program supports this reputation by enabling the South Australian Government to formally recognise businesses that:

  • Produce or process seafood in South Australia, and
  • Are operating in good standing within relevant regulatory and compliance frameworks.

Statements may be used by successful businesses:

  • During Government-led inbound and outbound trade missions
  • In discussions with international buyers and trading partners
  • As part of their own promotional and marketing activities

Each Statement of Recognition is issued by the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development and is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

What you will receive

Successful applicants will receive:

  • An official Seafood Statement of Recognition certificate issued by the South Australian Government
  • A Statement provided in English, with Chinese and Japanese translations available (subject to application preferences)
  • A unique registration number and validity period

The Statement recognises that a business produces or processes seafood in South Australia. It does not constitute a warranty of product quality, safety or compliance with import or export requirements.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, businesses must:

  • Produce or process seafood in South Australia
  • Be a valid legal entity with a current Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • Hold relevant sector licences and/or accreditations
  • Be in good standing, including compliance with applicable regulatory, licensing and financial requirements

All applications are subject to Government due diligence checks undertaken by relevant South Australian Government agencies. Lodging an application does not guarantee that a Statement of Recognition will be issued.

How to apply

Businesses wishing to apply must:

  • Complete the online Seafood Statement of Recognition Application Form
  • Provide all required supporting documentation, as outlined in the application form

Applications will be assessed against the program’s eligibility criteria and due diligence requirements. Statements of Recognition are issued following ministerial approval.
