South Australia Wine Industry Transition and Future Growth Package
About the package
The $109 million South Australia Wine Industry Transition and Growth Package supports industry transition, expands market demand, promotes regional investment and positions the state’s wine sector for sustainable long-term growth.
The package includes:
- $100 million loan scheme to help growers transition unviable vineyards to more sustainable and higher-value land uses
- vineyard transition and diversification support
- planning changes facilitating housing, employment and land use opportunities
- waste solutions for copper chrome arsenate (CCA) treated timber posts
- assessment and development of industry-led solutions to address surplus wine inventories
- extension and expansion of the Global Wine Growth Program
- targeted premium food and wine tourism campaign.
A Wine Industry Coordinator will support businesses to navigate the industry transition.
The South Australian Government will continue to work with the South Australian Wine Industry Association and the Wine Grape Council of South Australia on the development and implementation of the package.
Loan scheme
The South Australia Winegrape Grower Transition Loan Scheme supports eligible South Australian winegrape growers to transition unviable vineyards to more sustainable and higher-value land uses.
The scheme will provide loans to eligible growers who have been impacted by global wine oversupply, declining grape prices, shifting consumer demands and ongoing market pressures.
- Eligible growers will be able to access loans of up to $500,000.
- Total funding for the scheme is $100 million.
- Loan term of up to 10 years.
- No principal or interest repayments are required for the first 2 years of the loan.
Loan guidelines are currently under development.
To be notified when the scheme opens for applications, submit an expression of interest.
Applications will close on 30 June 2027 or when all funding has been allocated.
