The Marine Scalefish Fishery Management Advisory Committee

The South Australian Marine Scalefish Fishery Management Advisory Committee (MSFMAC) was established in 2021 by the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development ('the Minister') under the Fisheries Management Act 2007.

It provides advice to guide the management of the State’s largest and most diverse shared-access fishery.

Role of the committee

The marine scalefish fishery has over 60 permitted species which are important for several fishing sectors, including the:

  • commercial marine scalefish fishery
  • rock lobster fishery
  • charter boat fishery
  • recreational fishing sector
  • Aboriginal traditional fishing.

It includes expertise-based positions from across the key sectors with an interest in the fishery, as well experts in fisheries science, fisheries economics and fisheries management. The Committee has an Independent Chair and committee support is provided by the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA).
