The Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) and the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) are working together to deliver priority actions from the National Soil Strategy.

The Soil Collaboration Centre (SCC) is building the foundation for long-term, strategic soil action in South Australia. Through better networks, smarter data, and community-wide collaboration, we're ensuring our soils are valued, understood, and cared for, now and in the future.

About the Soil Collaboration Centre program

The SCC program is a state-wide initiative designed to strengthen South Australia’s soils community by uniting land managers, industry experts, researchers, policymakers, and students.

Together, we're creating a shared foundation for action through the Soils Knowledge Network (SASKN) and the Soils Data and Information Bank (SASDIB).

Soils Knowledge Network (SASKN)

Led by PIRSA, SASKN is a platform for collaboration, coordination, and communication across the state's soils community. It will:

  • foster knowledge sharing, mentoring, and professional connection
  • enable a considered and coordinated approach to soil management
  • support training, capacity-building, and informed decision-making.

Soils Data and Information Bank (SASDIB)

Led by DEW, SASDIB will upgrade South Australia’s soils data system into a modern, user-friendly tool that supports:

  • easy access to credible and regionally relevant soil data
  • monitoring and reporting on soil condition and trends
  • informed land management, investment, and policy planning.

What the Soil Collaboration Centre offers

  • Farmers, graziers, growers, and other land managers can access tools, data, and guidance tailored to local soil conditions for informed decision-making.
  • Students and educators can explore internships, mentoring, and education pathways in soil science and land management.
  • Researchers and advisors can connect with others working in soils, access shared resources, and contribute to collaborative soil initiatives.
  • Policy and investment can draw on trusted data and community insights to shape soil strategies and on-ground action.
