Funding and rebates for eID

The South Australian and Commonwealth Governments have supported the roll out of electronic identification (eID) for sheep and goats with combined funding of $10.1 million. This funding has been used to support the supply change transition to eID by providing rebates for essential equipment, infrastructure and tags. The extension of eID tag discount scheme is funded by the State Government's $73 million drought support package to provide support to drought-impacted farmers.

Discounted tags (at point of sale)

Discounted eID tags are available to South Australian producers with an active property identification code (PIC).

From 1 July 2025, a 47.5 cent discount will apply to NLIS accredited eID tags aligned to the year-of-birth colour system:

  • Orange (2026) – available 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026
  • Light green (2027) – available 1 January 2027 to 30 June 2027.

The point of sale discount applies to:

  • Allflex Australia
  • Datamars
  • Enduro Tags
  • Leader Products
  • Shearwell.

The discount will be applied by the retailer or tag manufacturer at the time of purchase. As a producer, you should not need to complete an application form or any additional paperwork.

Producers who purchase NLIS-accredited tags that fall outside of the year-of-birth colour scheme can apply for a rebate.
