eID for stock agents
Basic requirements
Depending on your activity, you may need:
- Agent property identification code (PIC).
- Scanning equipment.
- Agent NLIS database account.
Recording movement
Responsibilities for stock agents do not change with the introduction of sheep and goat eID.
Sheep and farmed goats born on or after 1 January 2025 must be identified with an NLIS-accredited eID tag before leaving their property of birth.
From 1 January 2027, all sheep and farmed goats leaving a property must be identified with an NLIS-accredited eID tag.
Agents conducting on-property public auctions must scan and record movements of all sheep and goats with eID tags on the NLIS database. This may include but is not limited to on farm ram, off shears or clearing sales.
When buying livestock from a saleyard, agents are permitted to have livestock temporarily recorded or transferred to their agent PIC before transferring to the destination PIC.
Agents are not responsible for scanning and recording property to property (P2P) movements, however, this service can be provided under agreement with the producer. These movements must be recorded as a Livestock Moved (non-written authority) via an agent database account. Agents are not permitted to have P2P movements transferred to their agent PIC under any circumstance.
Refer to the NLIS database user guide for agents and saleyards (PDF).
Sheep and goats moving to a South Australian property or location with a different PIC must be accompanied with a valid movement document and health declaration. Failure to do so is an offence under the Livestock Regulations 2013 and can result in expiation notices and fines. See Sheep and goat movement documentation.
