Tuesday 20 May 2025 Biosecurity
Limestone Coast farmers are invited to attend breakfast events this week to learn more about the wild rabbit control program being funded through the Malinauskas Labor Government’s $73 million Drought Support Package.
Two “Bunnies, Bait and Breakfast” events, jointly organised by the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) and the Limestone Coast Landscape Board will be held at the Tintinara Town Hall on Wednesday, 21 May and at the Keilira Community Hub on Thursday, 22 May. Both events are from 8am to 10am.
At both events, farmers will learn more about the Wild Rabbit Control Program and can also order free 1080 oat baits, sign up for access to ripping contractors and learn about best practice baiting and ripping.
The Limestone Coast Landscape Board, together with PIRSA, are being funded through the program to map roadsides to prepare for ripping warrens, assist producers with ripping in paddocks, and provide free bait.
Support will also be provided to collaborating neighbouring landholder groups who are looking to manage rabbit infestations on their properties through landscape scale eradication approaches.
The Drought Support Package Wild Rabbit Program also includes free calici virus access for producers still dealing with rabbit control once poisoning and ripping eradiation activities have been conducted.
