H5 bird flu testing update 5 August

South Australia has a further 12 new suspect H5 bird flu results, all in wild seabirds, since yesterday’s update.

These all involve greater crested terns from Port Elliot on the Fleurieu Peninsula (1), Seal Bay on Kangaroo Island (3), and Beachport on the Limestone Coast (8).

The samples have been sent to ACDP for confirmatory testing with results expected to be known in the coming days.

No additional confirmed H5 bird flu results have been received from the ACDP since yesterday’s update of 23 wild seabirds.

There remains 81 confirmed positive H5 bird flu detections in South Australia.

The 12 new suspect cases of H5 bird flu in South Australia brings the current number of suspect cases to 40.

There remains no H5 bird flu detections in poultry or other livestock. The risk to human health of H5 bird flu remains low.
