Swan Reach declared free from fruit fly
Thursday 6 November 2025
Swan Reach has been officially declared free from Queensland fruit fly (Qfly), with the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) lifting outbreak restrictions.
The successful eradication of Qfly in the Swan Reach outbreak area is proof the response program is working and brings renewed hope for the Riverland’s ongoing eradication efforts.
Residents in the Swan Reach area can now share fresh, home-grown fruit and vegetables with friends, family and neighbours without restriction.
PIRSA will continue to monitor Swan Reach through the permanent monitoring grid to ensure the area remains fruit fly free.
While Swan Reach is now free from Qfly, it remains within the Riverland Pest Free Area, which means restrictions still apply on bringing host fruit and vegetables into the region, even from outside outbreak zones. Visitors and returning locals should review the current movement rules at fruitfly travelling restrictions before travelling.
Growers seeking advice are encouraged to call the Industry Hotline on 1800 255 556 to speak with the Market Access team. PIRSA will continue to work closely with growers to discuss any changes to market access requirements.
Residents are reminded to stay vigilant by checking fruit regularly for signs of fruit fly, disposing of fruit waste correctly, and reporting any suspected fruit fly activity to PIRSA.
