Identifying insects

Found an unknown insect in your paddock? PestFacts SA offers a free identification service – using specimens, photos or short videos. For the best results, follow the tips below.

Sending specimens

Live samples provide the most accurate results. Use a sturdy container (without air holes), include some host plant material, and send early in the week using express post if possible. Please include:

  • location found
  • crop or host plant
  • your contact information.

Sending photos

Take clear photos from multiple angles and include something for scale (such as a coin or pen).
