South Australia’s world-class wines will continue to be showcased at the world’s most prestigious wine museum after the Malinauskas Government signed a new two-year deal with iconic French institution La Cité du Vin.

Attracting more than 3.5 million visitors from across the world since it was established a decade ago, La Cité du Vin delivers immersive showcases of the world’s best wines.

The new Memorandum of Understanding between the South Australian Government and the prestigious wine museum in Bordeaux was signed on the eve of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network’s International Annual Conference, which is currently underway in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand.

Through this renewed partnership, South Australian winemakers will showcase their wines through tastings in the museum’s Belvedere Room, against a 360-degree panoramic backdrop of Bordeaux.

South Australian wine producers will also host special events and deliver tasting masterclasses at the museum.

La Cité du Vin museum is a cultural icon that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, providing a major platform to boost the international profile of South Australia and its 18 distinctive wine regions as among the world’s very best.

In 2025, La Cité du Vin welcomed nearly 400,000 visitors, exposing our products to wine lovers from France, Spain, the United States, United Kingdom and beyond.

South Australia has been showcasing its wine at the institution since 2017, and our state’s reputation as a premium wine state has only strengthened since then, with Adelaide firmly established as a Great Wine Capital of the World, alongside Bordeaux in France, Napa Valley in the United States, and Verona in Italy.

Forty South Australian wine producers have been showcased at La Cité du Vin to date, introducing international audiences to the people and stories behind our state’s wine industry.

The collaboration has also enabled a portrait of Munda Wines owner and founder Pauly Vandenbergh to be featured at La Cité du Vin’s international photography exhibition, which is currently open to the public until the end of the year, further raising the profile of South Australian wine on the world stage.

South Australia produces 80 per cent of the Australia’s premium wine and 50 per cent of all bottled wine. The sector supports more than 90,000 jobs and includes almost 700 wineries and more than 70,000 hectares of vines.

The Great Wine Capitals Global Network is comprised of 11 world-class wine-producing cities and their surrounding regions, each renowned for their wine and tourism industries. Members collaborate to share knowledge, exchange expertise and support the growth and sustainability of the global wine and tourism sectors.

Adelaide’s membership is supported through a partnership between the South Australian Government, the South Australian Wine Industry Association and Adelaide University.
