Temporary King George Whiting limits apply in Coffin Bay and Kiana
Thursday 2 April 2026 Quarterly Catch
A small number of recreational fishers have recently asked whether the temporary Spencer Gulf bag and boat limits for King George Whiting apply to areas such as Coffin Bay. To clarify, these limits do apply in and around Coffin Bay, as well as to waters at Kiana (between Point Drummond and Sheringa).
Under the current temporary measures for the Spencer Gulf fishing zone, the bag limit is 5 King George Whiting per person per day, with a maximum boat limit of 15 per day.
There has also been some confusion around size limits in this area. The minimum size limit changes from 32 cm to 30 cm west of longitude 136° and including gulf waters. This location sits within the Spencer Gulf fishing zone, which means the reduced bag and boat limits apply there.
Before heading out, fishers are encouraged to check the latest rules and limits to help protect fish stocks and ensure everyone can continue to enjoy fishing in South Australia’s waters. You can stay up to date by downloading the SA Fishing app or go to Recreational fishing for the latest information.

The temporary precautionary reduced recreational bag and boat limits as well as charter boat passenger limits apply throughout the whole Spencer Gulf Fishing Zone, which includes Coffin Bay.
