Hardwicke Bay grant success with a view to the future

A shelter with tables and chairs overlooking the sea at Hardwicke Bay

A shelter looking out across the pristine sandy beach and crystal-clear water at Hardwicke Bay on the Yorke Peninsula has been completed with support from the State Government’s Thriving Communities Program.

The Hardwicke Bay Progress Association successfully applied for a $20,000 grant which, along with funds raised by the group, donations from the local community and assistance from the Yorke Peninsula Council, helped bring the project to life.

The Hardwicke Bay shelter is one of 39 projects across South Australia’s regions which have been given a jumpstart through the Thriving Communities Program. Other funded projects include upgrades at the Jamestown Shearer Training Centre, the historic Glencoe Woolshed’s amenities, the Millicent Men’s Shed, Renmark Guide Hall, Port Germein Community Hub, and Ngarrindjeri Ruwe Empowered Communities at Murray Bridge.

Delivered through the State Government’s Thriving Regions Fund, the program provides grants for small projects such as new or improved infrastructure, training, services, or events with wellbeing outcomes.

The last round of funding also saw upgrades to community kitchens in Tulka, Frances and Kalangadoo, restoration works at the Mt McKenzie Hall and at Minlaton’s Heritage Show Pavilion along with a new walking and bike trail at Blythe, new playground at Lochiel and additional powered sites at the Snowtown RV Park.
