Weather station – Wildeye, Alpha Group
Wildeye’s weather station calculates a range of local weather metrics to help with farm management decisions.
Benefits
On-farm weather data can be more accurate than data provided by the regional Bureau of Meteorology, particularly when it is located far away from the farm.
There can be significant variation in rainfall and temperature within a small area, which has a profound impact on irrigation scheduling and available crop water in dryland systems.
Using more precise data through the Wildeye technology can:
- inform your spray times, fertiliser application and irrigation
- improve assessments of fire risk and the likelihood of frost damage.
How it works
The weather station captures temperature, humidity, wind, rainfall, and sun parameters.
This data is used to calculate evapotranspiration (Et) rate, chill hours, Delta-T, growing degree days, fire danger index, and standard agronomic derivations and risk models.
Data can be accessed via the Wildeye dashboard on a computer, or the app on a mobile device.
Installation and power
Wildeye can be installed by a specialised technician from Alpha Group Consulting in SA, or by the producer.
Power is supplied by battery with approximately 5 years of life. The internal battery can be supplemented by a small solar panel.
Connectivity requirements
Compatible with cellular 3G and 4G, or Cat-M1 connection.
The Wildeye dashboard accessed from an online web browser
Pricing model
Wildeye products are purchased as a hardware package with an ongoing cost-effective service subscription.
