The information is useful for managing stocking rates, optimising grazing rotations, and identifying underperforming areas. It helps to maximise profitability and sustainability for daily grazing, as well as seasonal and long-term planning.
PastureKey integrates with third-party management systems like AgriWebb for simplicity and ease of use.
How it works
PastureKey combines satellite imagery and directed on-farm sampling to provide weekly estimates of pasture biomass and ground cover. Data is delivered through a simple web map interface within 24 hours of capture.
The Sentinel-2 satellite by the European Space Agency captures imagery every 5 days, at a resolution of 10x10m. The imagery is combined with GPS-located observations of total standing dry matter (TSDM) for ground truthing.
Calibration in a machine-learning algorithm delivers estimates of TSDM for each paddock. This model is frequently updated with more pasture sites for increased accuracy and precision.
