Biography
Dr Crisp has over 20-years experience in agricultural research including plant pathology, entomology and acarology with a particular focus on Biosecurity and Sterile Insect Technologies. Current formal responsibilities and accountabilities are as Program Leader Entomology. His group includes three subprograms, Fruit Fly and Biosecurity, Grains IPM (includes Blow Fly SIT) and a Grains Snail and slug Group. His group includes a Principal Scientist (PO6), a Senior Scientist (PO4) and multiple PO3, PO2 and allied technical staff members, in all the team numbers just under 40. The team delivers externally funded research to MLA, GRDC, ARC, SAGIT, Hort Innovation and provides crucial ongoing support to Biosecurity SA. Since taking up his role in December 2019, Dr Crisp and team have jointly submitted more than $40m in research funding applications to GRDC, SAGIT, Hort Innovation, DAFF and other funding bodies, this includes a proposal to State treasury the is pending an outcome. In addition, as Fruit Fly entomologist (2010-2019) he managed over $5M of funding as part of the SIT plus program and contributed to the funding applications and design of the $5m Pt Augusta SIT Facility. Dr. Crisp has also developed strong links with several Aboriginal groups within South Australia, Kaurna, Ngarrindjeri, Narungga communities, and is currently part of a 3-person team developing and Aboriginal Engagement policy for SARDI. In addition to this he is working with Aboriginal Elders and Communities to develop sustainable horticultural enterprises in remote and regional communities.
