Dr Rohan Kimber
Biography
Dr Kimber is enthusiastic research scientist within the South Australian Research & Development Institute (SARDI) with 25 years’ experience in plant epidemiology applied to industry funded projects. He has acquired diverse experience in integrated disease management of plant diseases and bringing innovative technology to the field and across sectors within Agriculture.
He has a passion for mobilising partnerships to find novel solutions for surveillance of airborne pathogens and insects and leading investigative science in aerobiology. This is driven by a desire to advance rapid and accurate diagnostics applied to area-wide surveillance that provides actionable data to end-users.
Dr Kimber wants to bring positive change to industry and government practices through field-deployed systems for the improved management of plant pathogens facing agriculture and associated ecosystems.
Research interests
- Development of innovative solutions to pests and disease surveillance platforms and integrated diagnostics, with special focus on airborne targets, relevant to both endemic and exotic targets
- Epidemiology, integrated disease management and disease resistance through plant breeding
- Air sampling systems serving aerobiology and landscape scale surveillance of airborne pathogens
- Digitally enabled systems for management, analysis, and visualisation of data
