Dr Stephen Mayfield

Biography

Dr. Stephen Mayfield, Program Leader of the Fisheries Science Program at the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI), brings extensive expertise in fisheries science and marine biology. With a strong academic foundation and diverse experience in Government, academic and contract roles, he specialises in assessing and sustainably managing nearshore living marine resources.

Dr. Mayfield integrates biological knowledge with statistical analysis and modelling to promote ecologically sound fisheries management practices. He oversees strategic and operational management aligned with PIRSA and SARDI objectives, enhancing their national and international profiles.

His leadership fosters crucial partnerships with stakeholders like PIRSA Fisheries and Aquaculture, FRDC, and southern Australia’s commercial fishing sectors, ensuring the longevity and profitability of Australia’s fisheries through scientifically robust advice.
