Coastal Seafarms Holdings Pty Ltd and Yumbah Mussels Holding Pty Ltd

The Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) is seeking written submissions on applications received from Coastal Seafarms Holdings Pty Ltd and Yumbah Mussels Holdings Pty Ltd for a new production lease (LA00552) and corresponding aquaculture licence (AQ00513), respectively, under the Aquaculture Act 2001.

Draft lease and licence certificates containing co-ordinates and draft conditions can be accessed through the aquaculture public register by searching the lease (LA00552) and licence (AQ00513) numbers and selecting the application registration types. However, note the conditions of each are subject to change depending on the results of the assessment process and whether the application is approved.

Location

The proposed activity is located near Port Lincoln, within the Proper Bay (east) sector of the Proper Bay aquaculture zone, identified under the Aquaculture (Zones – Lower Eyre Peninsular) Policy 2023.

Species

The application proposes the farming of Blue Mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis).


Farming Method

The application proposes the farming of Blue Mussels using uncontained longline production systems.


Assessment

PIRSA's licence assessment process includes the completion of an Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) risk assessment, which is based on a National ESD Framework underpinned by the Australia and New Zealand Standard for risk management.

During this assessment, up to 36 risk events (depending on the application) at both site and regional scales are assessed against the likelihood of an event, and the consequence of such an event, which results in an overall risk rating and an understanding of the potential impact of the proposed activity.
