The program will support new or existing SA sheep and cattle producer groups in joining the Livestock Sustainable Solutions Program to explore upskilling in sustainable practices.

Key dates

Applications close on Friday 1 May 2026 at 11:59 pm. PIRSA will not accept late submissions unless announced otherwise before the deadline.

The program will end by 31 December 2028.

Grant details

Funding provided to Sustainable Solutions Producer Groups will support producers in:

  • completing an on-farm emissions baseline using existing tools and calculators
  • exploring sustainable mitigation strategies and sharing experiences
  • monitoring or updating existing emission profiles
  • making informed decisions that align with productivity and sustainability goals
  • implementing emissions-related practice changes and developing an on-farm action plan to increase knowledge and awareness
  • learning from experts on how sustainable mitigation strategies can help improve productivity, efficiency, and profitability
  • applying technology in their business enterprise to improve productivity, efficiency, and profitability
  • attending and participating in program specific field days and events.

Mitigation strategies

Examples of mitigation strategies producers may wish to explore include:

  • Purchasing livestock tech to save time, labour and fuel
  • Weight monitoring and early intervention to improve growth, survival and time to market
  • Waterlogging management trials to reduce nutrient and fertiliser run‑off
  • Grazing trials to better use pasture and cut supplementary feed costs
  • Alternative forage and pasture mix trials to improve feed supply in variable seasons
  • Soil health projects to grow more grass and maintain ground cover
  • Beef calf rearing and early growth projects to improve performance and value
  • Fuel efficiency projects, such as solar pumping and real‑time monitoring, to reduce diesel use

This is not an exhaustive list. Producer groups are encouraged to suggest activities.
