Sheep and goat eID essential equipment rebate (schools)

To assist with the implementation of electronic identification (eID) for sheep and goats, South Australian schools, tertiary institutions and colleges can apply for a rebate on the costs of scanning equipment to assist in the recording of individual movements of electronically identified sheep and goats on the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) database.

Applicants must have an active agriculture program, including a focus on livestock management (sheep or goat), as part of the curriculum or extracurricular activities.

Key dates

Applications close on 30 June 2026 at 5 pm.

Amounts

Schools can apply for 75% of the cost of eligible essential equipment:

  • Stick or wand reader (1 maximum)

Payments will be made on a reimbursement basis upon presentation of paid invoices for approved expenditure. Proof of purchase and payment (official tax invoices and receipts) will be required to be submitted.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet all the criteria below:

  • be a school (Government or non-Government), tertiary institution or college based in South Australia
  • have an active SA producer property identification code (PIC)
  • have an active NLIS database user account registered to their registered to their school, tertiary institution or college
  • have an active agriculture program, including a focus on livestock management (sheep or goat), as part of the school, tertiary institution or college curriculum or school extracurricular activities
  • not have received funding from another South Australian or Federal Government program for the same activities.

Only 1 application can be lodged per school, tertiary institution or college.

Ineligible equipment, infrastructure and activities

  • Equipment purchased prior to 8 June 2023
  • Any equipment that is not a stick reader or wand
  • Second hand equipment

How to apply

Complete the application form ( DOCX 97.1 KB ) and email it to PIRSA.GrantsEnquiries@sa.gov.au.

You will need to include copies of:

  • tax invoices
  • evidence of payment (for example: bank statements, supplier statements, paid invoices).

What happens next

You will receive a receipt number upon submitting the online form. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval of a rebate.

Application outcomes will be advised in 4 to 6 weeks.

Successful applicants will be required to enter into an agreement with the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development to receive a rebate.
