Associate Professor Mark Doubell
Biography
Associate Professor Doubell has two decades of experience in academic and applied oceanography. His research integrates the various oceanographic disciplines with engineering, fisheries and aquaculture sciences, and ecology to improve our understanding of the connectivity, functioning and productivity of marine ecosystems. As the Oceanography Subprogram Leader, he manages a team of passionate oceanographers, modelers and field technicians that deliver outcomes that support the sustainable use, development, and optimisation of South Australia’s marine resources, with a focus on the state’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
He oversees the implementation of the national Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) in South Australia and maintains a strong focus on establishing state, national and international collaborations to deliver transparent R&D outcomes that address current and future challenges in marine systems.

- Turbulence, plankton, and bio-physical couplings in aquatic systems
- Hydrodynamic, wave, ecosystem, and larval transport modelling
- Innovation in monitoring marine environments
- Optimisation of marine industry practices that improves environmental sustainability and profitability
- Understanding the impact of future climate change in marine ecosystems
