Professor Simon Goldsworthy
Biography
Professor Goldsworthy has over 35 years’ experience across diverse disciplines in marine biology. He has worked in academia, and in commonwealth and state research organisations, and for the last 20 years as a Principal Research Scientist with SARDI. His research has underpinned the ecological sustainability of fishing and aquaculture, mitigated industry impacts on marine protected species and led to the introduction of sustainable fisheries practices.
Prof Goldsworthy works closely with natural resource managers, industry, and other stakeholders. He leads the Marine Ecosystem Program, which provides strategic science capabilities to support the sustainable development of South Australia’s marine and coastal resources and provides scientific and technical advice to government, industry, and the community.
He has published over 150 scientific papers in leading journals, over 80 technical reports and supervised 23 PhD and 17 Honours students.

- Population and foraging ecology of marine mammals and seabirds
- Ecological modelling as a decision support tool to support the ecological sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture, evaluate climate impacts and risk assessment
