The State Government has allocated an additional $1.2 million in funding to help community groups in regional South Australia bring their projects to life.

The funding allocation follows the immense popularity of the Thriving Communities Program with a further 10 community groups granted nearly $420,000 in funding in the latest round including the Port Broughton Bowling Club, Dunjiba Community Council and the Orroroo Netball Club.

The popularity of the program has resulted in application numbers far exceeding the allocated funds. The additional funding of $1.2 million will enable consideration of project applications that were submitted to the recent round, with successful applicants to be notified in coming months.

Delivered through the State Government’s Thriving Regions Fund, the program provides grants from $20,000 up to $50,000 for small projects such as new or improved infrastructure, equipment, or events with wellbeing outcomes.

Successful projects are those which build social capital through facilitating community participation, create a sense of belonging and improve accessibility.

Last year, the State Government funded 38 projects through the Thriving Communities Program including upgrades to community kitchens, playgrounds, shelters, storage facilities and existing infrastructure.
