Abalone biosecurity standards
Recommended biosecurity standards have been developed for the abalone aquaculture industry. These guidelines will help to prevent diseases and support trade.
The biosecurity standards make recommendations for:
- staff movements around aquaculture sites
- disinfection and hygiene practices
- daily inspection of stock
- record keeping
- monitoring of exotic marine organisms
- disease reporting requirements
- response plans after high or unexplained mortalities
- post translocation and separation of stock
- quarantine facilities for high risk stock
- surveillance.
