Abalone biosecurity standards

Recommended biosecurity standards have been developed for the abalone aquaculture industry. These guidelines will help to prevent diseases and support trade.

The biosecurity standards make recommendations for:

  • staff movements around aquaculture sites
  • disinfection and hygiene practices
  • daily inspection of stock
  • record keeping
  • monitoring of exotic marine organisms
  • disease reporting requirements
  • response plans after high or unexplained mortalities
  • post translocation and separation of stock
  • quarantine facilities for high risk stock
  • surveillance.
