Citrus Growers Fund
The Citrus Growers Fund supports South Australian citrus producers, using payments to carry out projects and activities that benefit the industry.
Payments from the fund are used in accordance with the Primary Industry Funding Schemes (Citrus Growers Fund) Regulations 2017.
Contributing to the fund
Citrus growers contribute $1.00 to the fund for every tonne of citrus fruit packed that is grown in South Australia.
Grower contributions are deducted from the price paid for fruit by the packer or processor and paid to PIRSA.
Citrus packers and processors collect $1.00 for every tonne of citrus packed.
Contributions to the fund are still required if the fruit is packed or processed interstate.
Contribution process
To collect fund contributions packers and/or processors need to:
- deduct $1.00 for every tonne from the sale price of the fruit
- complete a contribution form ()
- send PIRSA the completed contribution form and payment within 28 days of the quarter ending:
- 30 September
- 31 December
- 31 March
- 30 June.
Contribution refunds
Regulation 5A permits growers to ask PIRSA for a refund of citrus fund contributions.
You cannot access benefits or services funded by payments from a fund if you get a refund.
You must apply for a refund during the month of July for payments made to the fund in the previous financial year. To apply:
- Complete a refund request form ().
- Attach copies of your packer or processor statements.
- Send your application to PIRSA during the month of July.
Fund management
The Primary Industry Funding Schemes Act 1998 requires management plans for each industry fund to be revised annually and presented at a public meeting. It includes:
- estimates of the likely contributions to the fund over the following 5-year period
- proposals for investment of the fund
- proposals for fund applicants.
