About weeds

Weeds are plants that grow wild and have negative impacts on primary industries, native vegetation, or human health.

Invasive plant species must be prevented from establishing and spreading. They cost Australian agriculture billions of dollars each year by:

  • competing with crops, pasture, livestock, and wildlife
  • contaminating and degrading our production resources
  • reducing the value of the natural environment
  • causing health problems.
