Hook sizes and traces
Statewide restrictions
It is illegal to take any fish using the following together:
- a wire trace with a gauge of 2 mm or larger
- a fishing hook larger than size 12/0.
Metropolitan shark fishing
Metropolitan shark fishing restrictions prohibit:
- the use of any wire trace
- the use of a monofilament trace larger than 1 mm in diameter
- hooks with a shank length greater than 56 mm or a gape larger than 23 mm
- a combination or gang of hooks joined by threading the point of one through the eye of another.
These restrictions apply:
- between 5 am and 9 pm daily
- from the southernmost breakwater at Outer Harbour to Yankalilla Bay.
