Liquid level sensor – Agbot

The Agbot monitoring solution provides real-time information on water levels and other liquids, to help manage irrigation and resources.

BenefitsAgbot unit on a tank

Agbot minimises how often you need to check water tanks, troughs and dams, reducing labour and driving costs. Liquid levels can be checked remotely, providing peace of mind if you have to leave the property.

Water leaks can be identified early and the risk of livestock going without water is significantly reduced.

Monitoring liquid fertiliser and diesel tanks helps farmers use resources more efficiently and plan purchases in advance.

How it works

The liquid level sensor collects and measures data on a variety of storage units for water, diesel, and liquid fertiliser.

Current data is accessed via the Agbot app's dashboard on a mobile device.

Customised alerts can be set for thresholds and decrease rates, including when issues and events occur.

Installation and power

Scan the QR code on the box and follow the prompts to set up the app.

The Agbot unit is battery powered.

Agbot devices should be deployed with a full and unobstructed view of the sky in all directions to maximise transmission success on every satellite pass. Physical obstacles, including trees, buildings and poles, will block signals and may disrupt system performance.

Connectivity requirements

Compatible with direct-to-orbit satellite connectivity or 4G cellular.

Pricing model

Upfront hardware cost and annual subscription for satellite connectivity.

Producer case study

Sam Copping's property is located at Avenue Range in the lower southeast of SA. The family farm started with a poll hereford stud in 1980, they introduced sheep in early 1990, and they now have a self-replacing cattle herd, including black bulls.

Sam trialled 3 Agbot units in May 2022, and after quickly seeing the benefits, he invested in another 15 units. These are installed on his concrete and poly water tanks.

The biggest benefit was how much time and money Sam saved by not driving 10km multiple times a day to check tanks. He continues to physically monitor the tanks, but far less often. Agbot notifies him when the tank water drops to certain levels and when water is going back in again.

Overall, Sam found the technology beneficial with only minor issues. The customer service team were helpful and provided support on weekends when the minor issues occurred.

Sam’s advice to other producers when purchasing the technology is that although it doesn’t replace water tank checks, it is beneficial to have extra support.

Sam is incorporating other technology on the farm, including Farm Deck – a livestock and chemical recording app which tracks all chemicals used on the property.
