Crop Watch August 2020
Wheat stripe rust reported in Clare
Wheat stripe rust hotspots have been reported west of Clare in a paddock of Trojan.
Whilst the strain is unconfirmed at this stage, there have been resistance rating changes since 2018 due to the new pathotype detected in New South Wales and Victoria in 2019.
This is a timely reminder to monitor your paddocks for any signs of the disease and to implement appropriate management strategies as required.

What to look for
Look for yellow stripes of pustules on the leaves, especially the older leaves low in the canopy. Pustules are raised above the leaf surface and can be easily wiped off leaving a yellow stain.
Watch for hot spots, often 1-10 metres in diameter, in the crop.
