Fruit fly meetings with Riverland growers

Wednesday 23 August 2023

Riverland growers are invited to meet with the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) in the last week of August for an update on the Riverland fruit fly response and to ask questions, raise queries and share their thoughts.

Presenters will include representatives from the PIRSA Fruit Fly Response including Market Access and the Riverland Fruit Fly committee.

These grower-specific meetings are in recognition of the importance of growers and PIRSA working in partnership to eradicate fruit fly across the Riverland.

Grower meetings will be held in three fruit fly outbreak areas: Renmark, Loxton North and Ramco. At these meetings growers will be able to ask commodity-specific questions. Summer fruit and citrus growers are particularly encouraged to attend.

PIRSA General Manager of the Fruit Fly Response, Paul Dowsett, said all Riverland growers are affected by the fruit fly outbreaks and PIRSA is keen to continue working closely with the network of growers during eradication.

"Fruit fly outbreaks affect thousands of people and businesses, and these important meetings will give Riverland growers a chance to hear where eradication is at and what they can do on their properties to support the goal of eradication.”

"PIRSA is keen to hear from Riverland growers to better understand and, where possible, address their concerns and queries, as well as explore any ideas or thoughts they have on working together to achieve eradication."
