Temporary cuttlefish closure northern Spencer Gulf

Saturday 14 May 2022

A temporary, 12-month closure is in place in the waters of Spencer Gulf north of the line between Arno Bay and Wallaroo. The closure prohibits the targeting and take of cuttlefish from 14 May 2022 to 13 May 2023.

This closure is in addition to the permanent cephalopod (squid, cuttlefish, octopus) fishing closure in the False Bay/Point Lowly spawning area and is in line with the previous cuttlefish closure of the area, which was lifted 14 February 2020.

Any cuttlefish caught unintentionally must be immediately and carefully returned to the water.

Northern Spencer Gulf (excluding False Bay) remains open to recreational and commercial fishers targeting other fish species including squid and octopus.

For more information see Fishing closures.
