A seasonal closure on the taking and possession of black bream from Lakes and Coorong waters will be in place from midnight tomorrow (Friday 4 August) through to midnight 31 January 2024, in an effort to protect the species during its spawning period.
The seasonal closure, first implemented in 2018, covers commercial and recreational fishing and bans the take and possession of the species which is currently classified by the South Australian Research and Development Institute as "depleted".
This year's closure is being applied as an interim measure, while a Black Bream Recovery Strategy applying long term management arrangements to recover the stock is being developed in liaison with industry and RecFish SA.
Fishers are reminded on the importance to keep abreast of fishing rules and regulations. Information on recreational fishing rules in South Australia are available at Rules, the SA Fishing app, or by calling Fishwatch on 1800 065 522.
Any illegal or suspicious activity can be reported to PIRSA via the SA Fishing App or by calling the 24-hour Fishwatch line. Callers can choose to remain anonymous.
