Snapper Science Stakeholder Group
A fundamental component of the Snapper Science Program is collaboration between stakeholders and researchers to assist the recovery of a community-shared resource.
To ensure critical stakeholder input is captured and built into the design of the program, a Snapper Science Stakeholder Group (SSSG) has been established. The SSSG brings together representatives from commercial, charter boat, recreational, and Aboriginal and traditional fishing sectors who meet regularly with researchers to discuss progress and the future direction of projects.
The group operates in an open, collaborative, and consultative manner that facilitates the delivery of outcomes to advance the Snapper Science Program, while acting as the primary channel for information sharing and co-ordination of activities between their respective stakeholder groups.
Representatives are responsible for conveying feedback from their respective stakeholders to researchers, and for providing their groups with research updates following each meeting.
The SSSG include representatives from:
- Aboriginal traditional fishing
- Charter Boat Association of South Australia
- Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC)
- Marine Fishers Association (MFA)
- Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA)
- RecFish SA
- South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI)
- South Australian Northern Zone Rock Lobster Fishermen's Association
- Southeastern Professional Fishermen's Association
Communiques are produced after each meeting, providing a summary of topics discussed at SSSG meetings.
