Boat limit: A total combined limit of 3 per day for the below shark and ray species. This applies when 3 or more people are fishing on board.

Identification

Sevengill Sharks have:

  • a blunt snout
  • greyish brown or black back, sometimes with dark spots or blotches
  • 7 gill slits
  • extremely long lobe on their upper tail.

They can grow up to 4.8 m.

Habitat

Sevengill Sharks are usually in tropical and temperate continental and insular shelves and upper slope waters.

They are commonly found between 100 m and 400 m but have been caught to a depth of 1,000 m.
