Key dates
Applications close at 5 pm (ACST) on 30 June 2025.
The closing date to submit a needs analysis to PIRSA is 30 September 2024.
Rebate details
As part of the national transition to electronic identification (eID) for sheep and goats, a rebate is available to assist saleyards and processors to set up the essential equipment and infrastructure required to scan. This enables them to meet regulatory obligations under the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) for recording and reporting individual sheep and farmed goat movements.
The rebate will apply to eligible purchases made on or after 8 June 2023.
Amounts
Eligible saleyards and processors can apply for a 75% rebate on the total cost of essential equipment (including hardware and software) and infrastructure, for the movement of sheep and farmed goats.
Quantity limits have been set based on the size of the eligible saleyard or processor operations.
Needs analysis
If an applicant requires equipment or infrastructure above or different from the quantity limits set out in the guidelines, the applicant must submit a needs analysis to PIRSA.GrantsEnquiries@sa.gov.au prior to submitting an application.
We recommend having the needs analysis assessed prior to purchasing additional infrastructure or equipment.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the rebate, saleyards and processors must have an active South Australian saleyard or processor property identification code (PIC) and have an active NLIS database account.
Saleyards and processors must:
- be a currently operating saleyard or processor that receives sheep or farmed goats for sale or processing

- hold an active Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST
- be a legal entity capable of entering into a funding agreement with the Minister
- not have received funding from another South Australian or Australian Government program for the same activities
